Georgia Milestones 2017-2018: Get The Latest Information

Dear Parents or Guardians,

During the weeks of April 9 through April 24, 2018 your child will be taking the Georgia Milestones End of Grade assessment. Students in grades 3 through 8 will be administered this state assessment.  The State and local promotion criteria that is based on this state assessment is in place and the state requires that all students pass the Reading portion of the GA Milestones in grades 3, 5 and 8 and Mathematics in grades 5 and 8. A re-test for those students scoring below criteria will be administered for these grade levels the week of May 14, 2018. For the End of Grade test, only grades 5 and 8 take Science and Social tests.

In Miller County the Georgia Milestones End of Grade (EOG) assessment will be given in an on-line format (on the computer) to grades 3-8. Many of the items presented to your child will be in a selected response (multiple-choice) format, but there will be several items in English/Language Arts and Mathematics that will require your child to compose a short answer/paragraph or in the case of the ELA writing task, an extended response or essay. The essay is given in all grades tested and takes the place of the 3rd, 5th and 8th grade writing tests. All items in Science and Social Studies are multiple choice.

The Georgia Department of Education has multiple resources available for further information. The links are available here:

There is also a practice site so that your child can be familiar with the on-line testing experience. Your student has been exposed to this several times this year. The link-

Computers are available at the Parent Resource Center at the Board of Education or at the Public Library, if needed.

To get prepared for this test and the on-line format, your child’s teacher has been diligently teaching the standards and presenting the information in formats similar to what the students will see on the assessments. In addition, the students have had access to practice tests on the computer on the actual platform that will be used. A secure practice test will also be given either this week or the week after spring break. Students have also been practicing keyboarding to improve their typing skills.

[Important: It is a violation of GA DOE regulations for students to have electronic devices-CELL PHONES- in the testing environment. If found with a cell phone during testing your child may face disciplinary action from Miller County Schools and could have their test invalidated by the state. There is no reason your child needs their cell phone at school; during the 2 weeks of testing please help us stay in compliance and make sure it stays at home.]

We are trying to make this a positive testing experience for your child. Please have your student at school on time every day, well rested and prepared to do their best. Testing will begin promptly after school begins, so tardies must be avoided. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school or myself.
