As Georgia's 2026 Teacher of the Year, Rachel Kinsaul encouraged schools and districts across the state to engage students in meaningful service learning through a Day of Service focused on community connection, real-world learning, and civic responsibility. The statewide Day of Service was observed on March 18, 2026. Schools were encouraged to participate on that date or schedule their own service day, empowering districts to adapt the initiative to local needs.
Miller County High School students participated in the Day of Service by cleaning up a local cemetery, collecting needed items for a local women's shelter, and by cleaning up at Cotton Hall (our local theater where various productions are performed throughout the year). Other service projects completed by Miller County Middle School and Miller County High School students throughout the year included serving at our local food bank, adopting nursing home patients at Christmas, adopting needy children at Christmas in order to provide presents for them, and the "Living to Serve" home improvement project in Macon.
Mr. Jamie Ard, Miller County High School Principal: "It was a pleasure for our students to be able to give back to the community that gives so much to us. We look forward to future service projects that will benefit our community."
